our roots

Lakewood Greenhouse

Lakewood Greenhouse was established in the late 1890's by William F. Krueger to produce cut Carnations. His son, Walter Krueger, Sr. took over the business and began growing potted holiday plants, annuals, and spring crops.  Mr. Krueger continues to oversee the production of Easter Lilies, as well as doing repairs around the greenhouse, at the age of 93. His son, the current president, Walter F. Krueger, Jr., continues with the family tradition of excellence in growing fine quality plants.

Lakewood is a wholesale operation growing a wide variety of potted blooming plants on approximately eight acres of greenhouses. Lakewood offers potted plants, blooming hanging baskets, bedding plants, dish gardens, novelty gardens, tropical plants, orchids and all holiday crops. Known for our quality and variety, Lakewood maintains a base of approximately 500 customers and has close to 50 employees.

Walter and his wife Mary are very committed to the continued success of Lakewood Greenhouse and are looking forward to the fourth generation growing up in the business and taking it over someday. Read an article about our Greenhouse in the Toledo Blade here.
